Today marks the release of the single “Not Today,” offering the first glimpse into Kim Gordon’s upcoming album, Play Me. The new record does not function exactly as a sequel to its predecessor, but rather as an evolution of her work, once again produced by Justin Raisen. According to Gordon, the dynamic between the two has progressed - Raisen knows her better now, not only on a personal level, but also on the technical space, allowing him to leverage her artistic vision.

On the new single, Kim Gordon’s voice appears far looser than usual, a trait that can be expected across the rest of the album. The album’s creative process was more immediate, focused, and confident, centered on themes that continue to trouble the artist: the collateral damage inflicted by the billionaire class, democratic erosion, the inevitability of artificial intelligence, and a culture of convenience that flattens art.
